Pelvic Pain
What is chronic pelvic pain ?
Chronic pelvic pain is any pain below your umbilicus and has been there for 6 months. The exact diagnosis can be tricky to both your physician and treating gynaecologist.
What are the symptoms?
- Dull aching pain
- Abdominal cramps
- Pain exacerbated by sexual intercourse
- Pain which increases while passing urine or motion
- Shooting abdominal pain radiating to any other body part
When to visit a gynaecologist?
- Please visit your gynaecologist if you have symptoms of unexplained abdominal pain, chronic fatigue or you have been showing to your general practitioner with no relief of abdominal pain. Since a gynaecologist has better understanding of the female pelvic anatomy, you should get yourself evaluated by her.

There are a lot of gynaecological conditions which present as chronic pelvic pain. Endometriosis which causes powder burn spots all over the pelvis can present as vague or acute pelvic pain. Pelvic infections, or pelvic congestion can also present as symptoms of pain. Sometimes previous abdominal surgeries can cause thin fibrous bands called as adhesions, which can cause chronic pelvic pain.
